It is important to know the specific type of notarization you need. Among the various notarial services available, three of the most common are: Acknowledgment, Jurat, and Copy Certification. If you are unsure about which type of notarization is required, it is best to contact the document drafter or receiving agency for clarification. Please note that a notary is not permitted to provide advice on the type of notarial action needed.
A Notary cannot perform a notarization unless you present an acceptable form of identification. Make sure you bring one of the following to your appointment: ● State-issued driver's license ● State-issued ID card ● U.S. passport issued by the U.S. Department of State ● U.S. military ID ● State, county, and local government IDs ● Permanent resident card or "green card" issued by the U.S. Keep in mind that acceptable identity documents can vary from state to state. If you don't have proper ID, you may be able to use a credible identifying witness—a person with an acceptable ID who will swear to the Notary that they know you. For more information, ask your Notary.
While most notarizations are quick, the duration can depend on the document’s complexity and the number of signatures required.
A notary public, whether mobile or stationary, serves a specific purpose in the legal process. However, they are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice. For assistance with legal matters, it’s best to consult a licensed attorney.
Always ask for their Notary Public Commission Card or Certificate. It's also wise to check reviews or get referrals when choosing a mobile notary.
